Terms of Use

Conditions for Reading, Subscribing and Contributing

Last updated: 1 January 2025. These terms govern your access to the DiverseThought catalogue and its monthly volumes.

1. Subject of the Service

DiverseThought is an independent editorial publication that distributes essays, book reviews, interviews and collections of unconventional ideas across science, art, philosophy and contemporary culture. Each monthly volume explores a central theme from varied angles, with contributions from writers, illustrators and academics based in South Africa and abroad. The catalogue organises content by discipline, depth level and format — text, audio, visual — so that each reader can build their own exploration path.

2. Rights and Obligations of the Reader

By accessing the catalogue, you receive a personal, non-transferable right to read and listen to the published volumes for private, non-commercial use. You may quote short excerpts with clear attribution to DiverseThought and the original author. You may not republish, resell, redistribute or publicly display the full content of any volume without prior written permission. Subscribers who propose themes for future editions grant us the right to consider and use those suggestions without any obligation to compensate or credit the proposer beyond a general acknowledgement in the edition's introduction.

3. Obligations of the Publisher

DiverseThought commits to publishing one new volume per month for active subscribers. Each volume will clearly state its central theme, the disciplines covered and the depth level. We strive to credit all contributors accurately and to correct any factual errors promptly after they are brought to our attention. Editorial decisions about which themes, formats and contributors appear in each edition remain at the sole discretion of the editorial team.

4. Limitation of Liability

The content in each volume is provided for intellectual and cultural enrichment. It does not constitute professional advice in any field, including but not limited to legal, financial, medical or psychological guidance. While we aim for accuracy in factual claims and attributions, essays and reviews reflect the personal views of their authors. DiverseThought is not liable for any decisions made or actions taken based on the ideas presented in its publications. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from your use of the catalogue is limited to the amount you paid for the current subscription period.

5. Termination of Use

You may stop using the catalogue and cancel your subscription at any time by contacting us at the address below. We may suspend or terminate access to the catalogue if you materially breach these terms, including unauthorised redistribution of content or repeated infringement of contributor rights. Upon termination, your right to access current and future volumes ceases, but you may continue to use previously downloaded volumes for personal reference in line with section 2.

6. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes in our editorial operations or legal requirements. The current version will always be available on this page, with the revision date noted at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the monthly volume or by direct email to active subscribers at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the catalogue after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
